James J. Hudson collection, 1918-1990.

A collection of materials which deal with military aviation history including a combat log and victory list from the Escadrille Lafayette, histories of the Royal Air Force (RAF) Devil Hawk Squadron and the 350th fighter Group, along with records of the 92nd and 75th Squadrons of the RAF. Contained within those records are pilot listings as well as listings of World War I aces. Other items of interest within the collection are Hudson's manuscripts entitled "Only the Clouds Remember: America's Air Aces who Flew Combat with the British in World War I" and research materials for his book "Hostile Skies: A Combat History of the American Air Service in World War I."

James J. Hudson was born in Arkansas in 1919 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He became a fighter pilot and saw action in North Africa, Italy and France. After the war, Hudson attended the University of Arkansas where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1948 and his master's degree in 1949.
